Here’s how to make Pigeon Pie from “Game of Thrones”

In preparation for the Game of Thrones season six premiere on April 24th, Bon Appetit released a series of Westeros-inspired recipes, including a recipe video for Pigeon Pie. The magazine gave the classic cooking-style video a Game of Thrones twist, using fonts and slang from the series while preparing a meal fit for a king or khaleesi.

While the dish looks pretty elaborate, putting it together is relatively simple–that is, if you have fresh pigeon lying around.

If you don’t, you can just substitute with chicken, but you’ll need some other ingredients as well, like prosciutto and ground pork, as well as spices like mace, allspice, and ginger.

According to the recipe, you’ll be layering the ingredients in the same order until the pan is filled, then topping with dough and giving it an egg wash before sending your masterpiece into the oven for up to two and a half hours, depending on the internal temperature of the pie.

When all is said and done, it should look a little something like this:

However, if Pigeon Pie isn’t your thing, there are a ton of other recipes to choose from. Perhaps you’re craving some Direwolf Bread, or a sweeter option, like Sansa’s Lemon Cakes.

There’s no better way to enjoy the new season than by getting your palette in the spirit, even if you’ll end up spitting half the food out in surprise as the show kills off half of its cast.
