Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was actually terrified to film that Jaime-in-the-water scene for “Game of Thrones”

Game of Thrones has thrown us for all sorts of loops in Season 7, but the cliffhanger at the end of Episode 4 left us wondering if one of our faves, Jaime Lannister, would make it out alive. Luckily, he did. But that doesn’t mean it was easy. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was actually pretty scared while filming Jaime’s almost-death scene.

This season on Game of Thrones, there have been a few unbelievable moments.

From just how quickly everyone manages to travel around Westeros (except apparently White Walkers), to a recent episode called “The Spoils of War” in which Dany (Emilia Clarke) attacked a Lannister loot train with Drogon. In that episode, Jaime appears to almost drown. Luckily, Bronn (Jerome Flynn) took a break from SHOOTING DROGON (we still haven’t forgiven him) to save Jaime.

And in a new interview, Coster-Waldau spoke about just how terrifying that water scene was to shoot for him:

“As you know, [Jaime] falls into the water and he sinks, and we shot for a whole day and it was 15 feet I had to float down, he explained. “I’m going down and it’s all murky water, you can’t see anything, and in a situation like that you want to know, ‘Well, I can get out of this.’ But that day, I just couldn’t...it triggered all my claustrophobia.

Oh no! Luckily, Coster-Waldau said safety precautions were in place the whole time and he was never actually in any danger — but talk about a tough day of shooting.

Let’s hope Jaime makes it through the rest of the season! Game of Thrones airs Sundays on HBO.
