Fellow ‘Game of Thrones’ fans: We have good news and bad news
Talking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo answered two very important questions for us loyal Game of Thrones fans. How long will it go on, and also, how about that death, hmm?
Well, first the good news: Game of Thrones will continue on for at least eight seasons, if not more!!
“’Seven seasons and out’ has never been the conversation,” Lombardo said, according to the LA Times. “The question is how much beyond seven are we going to do. [Benioff and Weiss] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds.” OK, so that’s promising.
And now. . .the bad news: Jon Snow is still dead. According to Lombardo, “Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Um, yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, Jon Snow is indeed dead.”
While we’re not too thrilled to be reminded that Jon Snow is dead (again, for like the thousandth time), the fact that GoT will continue on longer than expected is amazing. Now with shooting for Season 6 underway, HBO is already looking for more GoT. More than just Season 6. Way more than just Season 7. HBO sounds completely game for not just a Season 8, but possibly creating a prequel series for the show.
Lombardo mentions that he’s “open to anything that Dan [Weiss] and David [Benioff] [want] to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter… there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George [R. R. Martin] and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that.” Sounds like we could not only get eight seasons of GoT, but an entire prequel series, too. So much Westeros.
As for the other matter of business, once again, Jon Snow is dead. So now, for those keeping track, these people have stated for the record that Jon Snow is dead: HBO’s programming president; Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington; the GoT Season 5 finale director David Nutter, who told President Obama that Jon Snow is dead.
And now, everyone else who doesn’t believe he’s dead: you, me, and everyone we know.
