Not so fast, HBO says there still ~might~ be more “Game of Thrones” after Season 8
The news out of Westeros right now is that after Season 8, Game of Thrones will be coming to an end, and we have LOTS AND LOTS OF FEELINGS ABOUT THAT. Over the weekend, during HBO’s TCA press panel, they said, though not in these words, “The show is ending, start crying about it.”
Okay, actually they said:
“Yes, [showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff] have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” programming president Casey Bloys explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more. I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”
Weiss and Benioff are in the process of wrapping up ALL the storylines on the show, and come on, it only took Dany six seasons to start sailing to King’s Landing, amirite?
But no sooner was this announced, that BuzzFeed then talked to HBO, and they sang a different song (of ice and fire):
“Casey did confirm Season 8, but didn’t really say for sure that’s the end.”
Whoa. That gives us brand new feelings about Game of Thrones, and the fact that this might not truly be the end. Obviously, this could just be in reference to the long-discussed (and something we’re hoping and praying for) Game of Thrones spinoff, or HBO could really be looking to extend it on even after Season 8.
Because it’s kinda a copout to put someone on the Iron Throne and then NOT show us their rule, right? Don’t you want to see what Jon/Sansa/Dany/Cersie/Brienne/Arya/Yara/Ghost’s — long may they reign — looks like? Us, too.
