‘Game of Thrones’ director answers your lingering Jon Snow question
Here’s one more spoiler alert for the Game of Thrones‘ season five finale. Because, guys: We’ve gotta talk about it, again, because no, none of us are over it. Ready for one last go at Jon Snow’s fate?
Those who tuned into the finale last week saw Jon Snow killed by his fellow men at The Wall. The Night’s Watch turned on him, and he was stabbed — repeatedly — by everyone, including little Olly. The last seconds of the episode show him lying in the snow in a pool of his own blood, leaving viewers with the impression that he’s dead. But he can’t be dead, can he? This is Jon Snow. He’s gotta be alive… right?
Well, now the finale’s director, David Nutter, is speaking out about the fact that Jon Snow is really, truly, super dead. Very dead. Nutter talked to Variety and set the record straight. “I can say emphatically that Jon Snow is definitely dead.”
Continuing he, explained, “I felt it was important to set up the sequence as quickly as possible so you didn’t expect it or wait for it. I didn’t want it to linger. I wanted it to catch you by surprise.”
Still, the idea that Melisandre could revive him is something that’s being tossed around. She’s back at The Wall, and she might as well do SOMETHING useful, right?
But Nutter says that’s not his concern right now. His only concern was “to take care of Jon Snow, and he’s now deader than dead.”
Kit Harrington echoed that sentiment, talking to Entertainment Weekly after the episode aired, saying, “I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really.”
OK, let’s keep the hope alive that we’ll see Jon Snow back again someday. But for right now, it’s coming straight from the source: He’s dead. Listen, I’m just as upset as you.
