Jon and Dany *finally* met on “Game of Thrones” — but they’ve got a long way to go before they’re BFFs

There are spoilers ahead for the latest episode of Game of Thrones, “The Queen’s Justice,” so if you haven’t watched it yet, what are you even doing here. Shoo. It’s on HBO Go right this second. Go.

If you can believe it, it’s been seven seasons and still Jon Snow and Daenerys have not met face to face in Westeros — until now. Dany summoned Jon down to Dragonstone to “bend the knee” (aka, pledge allegiance in her quest to take the Iron Throne) at the same time Sam sent word to Jon that there was dragonglass at Dragonstone. It was a meeting where both parties could have easily benefited except…well, do you know Dany and Jon at all? Do you expect two of the most stubborn people in Westeros to just get along and become fast friends? Absolutely not.

The two start off semi-friendly, and that quickly turns to not-friendly. Dany’s very insistent that Jon agrees to ally with her, and while Jon doesn’t outright refuse, he really needs that dragonglass. As he tries to tell her, the White Walkers are coming and it’s cool if everyone in the south is fighting about the Iron Throne, but the White Walkers will kill everyone. That’s the great war that needs to be fought.

However, the only problem with Jon politely demanding the dragonglass is that Dany’s never seen the horrors beyond the Wall, and doesn’t believe Jon; Tyrion believes him, but doesn’t speak up right away.

So no, Jon’s not going to bend the knee, and Dany’s not going to give him dragonglass — at least not right away. It takes Tyrion giving both Dany and Jon a pep talk to get them to agree to work together. Dany will give Jon the dragonglass, and eventually it’s assumed that Jon will honor Dany as the rightful heir to the throne.

For the time being, it sure looks like these two will play nice — at the very least, tolerate one another. That is, until all the secrets of Jon Snow come spilling out on Game of Thrones.
