Since “Game of Thrones” is the gift that keeps on giving, there’s already *another* spinoff in the works

Game of Thrones might be heading into its eighth and final season, but there’s still much more from the big, bad world of Westeros to look forward to — that is, if all goes according to plan. That’s because there’s a fifth Game of Thrones prequel series currently in the works at HBO, according to Entertainment Weekly.

That’s right, a *FIFTH* Game of Thrones prequel series.

A fifth spinoff/prequel has been discussed as a possibility before, but names had yet to be attached. Now we know that Game of Thrones co-executive producer Bryan Cogman developed and is writing the drama series, which he worked on with author George R.R. Martin. In addition to producing the OG series, Cogman is also credited with writing a handful of episodes — like this past season’s “Stormborn” — so we trust that we’re in good hands.

Martin, who is already working on two other potential prequels, referenced this unconfirmed prequel on his blog in May.

But we didn’t know if it was happening for sure — and he didn’t reveal too much. And there’s not a whole lot more we know about this fifth project, or any of the potential prequels for that matter. Specific story points haven’t been revealed for any of the prequels, but we do know that all them would take place before the events of Game of Thrones — as prequels do — and that none of them will feature current cast members.

So, enjoy your Dany and Jon feels while you can!

Not to mention, we don’t even know if we’ll get to actually see any of these series.

They’re in development, but haven’t gotten the *official* go ahead from HBO. It’s possible that only one prequel series will make it through. Oh, and if any of them get the green light, we probably won’t see them until about a year after Game of Thrones concludes, and that’s not expected to come back until late 2018 or 2019.

So yes, this news only increases the possibility of more Game of Thrones-adjacent projects. But if this fifth prequel series — or any of the other prequels — moves forward, we’ll have to wait quite a long while to watch.
