This Redditor noticed an interesting pattern to the deaths on “Game of Thrones”

If there’s one thing Game of Thrones has become famous for — in addition to incest and dragons — it’s spectacular death scenes. Throughout the series, hundreds of characters have been killed by dragons, Valyrian swords, intense battles, and even the odd beheading or two. Game of Thrones deaths are so synonymous with the series that whenever a few episodes pass without a major death, we start to get a little nervous that something big is on the horizon.

Seeing how important death is to the series — and how meticulous the Game of Thrones crew is when it comes to detail — it makes sense that there’s a pattern to the major character deaths.

And this is something fans have definitely been picking up on. Redditor razobak09 recently posted about how many of the Game of Thrones characters have died in ways that pay homage to their most important moments on the series, from Ned Stark’s beheading to Littlefinger’s death by Valyrian dagger.

"Ned Stark used his greatsword Ice to behead the Night's Watchman; he was beheaded with his own sword. Joffrey gave the command to execute Ned; he was killed in a way that took away his ability to speak," razobak09 wrote, admitting that the Joffrey connection is a reach. "Tywin ordered the Red Wedding, where numerous Stark men were killed by crossbow-wielding musicians; he was killed by a crossbow."

Naturally, Tywin isn’t the only one who died Red Wedding-style.

“Roose Bolton killed Robb Stark with a knife to the heart; he was killed by a knife to the heart,” razobak09 continued. “Walder Frey ordered Catelyn Stark’s throat cut at the end of the Red Wedding; he had his throat cut by Arya.”

But wait, there’s so much more.

"Ramsay Bolton was fond of feeding people to his hounds; he was fed to his own hounds," razobak09 went on. "The Sand Snakes were each killed in a way that mirrored their own style: Nymeria was strangled by her own whip, Obara was impaled with her own spear, and Tyene was killed by her favorite poison. Olenna Tyrell killed Joffrey with poison; she was executed with poison."

And even more…

“Littlefinger betrayed Ned Stark by putting a knife to his throat, and the Valyrian Catspaw Dagger was used in the attempt to have Bran Stark assassinated, which he intentionally blamed on the Lannisters, sparking the Lannister-Stark conflict,” razobak09 concluded, and later added some edits. “He was executed by having his throat cut by the Valyrian Catspaw Dagger.”

Game of Thrones has never shied away from powerful symbolism and we think the significance of how each major character dies is just another example of how incredible the HBO series is. Now, all we have to do is figure out the “fitting” ways the remaining characters could potentially meet their ends.
