Dany’s hair on “Game of Thrones” might actually be a fierce tribute to Khal Drogo
So much has happened to Daenerys Targaryen in the six seasons since her husband, Khal Drogo, was killed, but she surely wouldn’t forget about him and their unborn child. Game of Thrones fans seem to think she’s paying tribute to him now in an unlikely way — via her hair.
Let’s take a trip back to Season 1 of Game of Thrones, when Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is sold by her brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd) to Dothraki Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). Viserys noted that Khal Drogo’s long hair was a sign of strength and that the Dothraki cut off their hair when defeated. He had never been defeated and therefore had really long (and beautiful) hair.
Some Game of Thrones fans on Reddit noticed that in the years since Khal Drogo died, Dany has been sporting longer and longer locks. Just check out this photo from a recent episode.
You have to admit, her hair is long and braided, similarly to Khal Drogo. In the comments of the Reddit post, another fan also noted that Cersei’s hair was chopped off as part of her “shame” walk. So maybe long hair is really seen as a symbol of strength. Dany has seen one amazing victory this season (the jaw-dropping loot train attack), although she has had some great losses, too. She did just lose a dragon to The Night King.
But we love the idea she’s honoring Khal Drogo’s tradition by keeping her hair long and braided. Let’s just hope she doesn’t lose a battle anytime soon. Game of Thrones airs Sundays on HBO.
