This “Game of Thrones” actor predicted how his character would die back in 2015
Spoilers from the Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones lie ahead! You’ve been warned…
Winter is here! And with it came the end of Season 7 of Game of Thrones. In true Game of Thrones fashion, not everyone made it through the episode alive — although most of them did. One death was especially satisfying: that of Lord Petyr Baelish aka Lord Protector of the Vale aka Littlefinger aka why does he have so many names (Aidan Gillen).
And it turns out Gillen predicted the end of Littlefinger’s story (and life) way back in 2015.
In the Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones, “The Dragon and the Wolf,” we said goodbye to Littlefinger for good. The man who not only tried to turn Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) against one another, but accomplished that feat with Catelyn Stark and her sister, Lysa Arryn.
Basically, Littlefinger is the worst.
His death was made even more satisfying by the fact Arya got to be the one to carry it out.
And in an interview with EW.com, Gillen spoke about how he predicted Arya would be his executioner:
"I did an interview with a publication [in 2015] and they asked me how I thought I would go. I said I thought Arya would deliver the blow. So it was as promised."
As for when his character knew he was about to meet his maker? Well, that all comes back to the famed dagger.
"And even within the scene, as soon as he walks in that room and Arya produces the dagger he knows the game is up. He at least suspected the game was up back in Episode 4 when Bran told him, 'Chaos is a ladder.'"
Farewell, Littlefinger. Game of Thrones Season 8 will be much less evil without your conniving ways.
