Gal Gadot’s salary for “Wonder Woman” was criminally low, but there’s a reason
Wonder Woman has been completely crushing it at the box office (earning $573 million worldwide and counting, to be exact!), so our jaws dropped when The Daily Dot reported that Gal Gadot made $300,000 for the film.
But before you put on your cape and armor and prepare to kick some serious studio butt for underpaying our favorite superhero, it looks like there’s more to the story — though we appreciate your enthusiasm.
The $300,000 is just the base pay Gadot receives, and it doesn’t include the bonuses she’ll likely take home for the film’s box-office performance. Also, because of the incredible success of the film, she’s bound to see a huge spike in her salary for the Wonder Woman sequel.
Gadot is currently two films into a three-picture deal with Warner Bros., and she also took home a $300,000 base pay for her role as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Justice League.
To give you a better idea of how her salary might change after her recent box-office success: Chris Evans was also given a base pay of $300,000 for Captain America, and then pulled in a whopping $6.9 million for Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Given the huge issue of gender pay discrepancies in Hollywood, we’re really hoping that Gadot gets her due for the Wonder Woman sequel — and we have a feeling, based on her recent interview with Glamour, that she’ll put up a fight if she doesn’t.
"Feminism is about equality. I want all people to have the same opportunities and to get the same salaries for the same jobs," she said. "I realize I'm doing what I want to do because of the women before me who laid the groundwork. Without them I wouldn't be an educated working mother who is following her dreams; I wouldn't be here."
Annnnd we’ll be right behind you fighting, Gal!
