Gal Gadot’s speech from the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards will leave you in happy tears

Gal Gadot literally moved us to tears last night when she accepted the second annual #SeeHer Award at the 2018 Critics’ Choice Awards. In her acceptance speech, she discussed how the character of Wonder Woman embodied everything she wanted to be as a woman on and off screen.

“It was clear to me that I wanted to portray a strong and independent woman…later I was cast as Wonder Woman, and all of those qualities I looked for I found in her,” Gadot said. “She’s full of heart, strength, compassion and forgiveness. She sees wrong that must be made right; she takes action when everyone around her is idle.”

Gadot continued, saying, “My promise and commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced, and we will continue [to] band together to make strides, uniting for equality.

Gadot went on to note that 2017’s three top-grossing films — The Last Jedi, Beauty and the Beast, and Wonder Woman — were led by women. It was yet another powerful moment in an awards season that has already shone a light on strong, inspirational women in our world.

Gadot has been vocal in her opposition to Wonder Woman producer Brett Ratner after six women came forward with claims that Ratner had assaulted them, even going as far as saying that she would not appear in Wonder Woman 2 if he was still involved.

This is the second year the #SeeHer Award has been awarded, with a Critics’ Choice spokesperson telling E! News that the purpose of the award is to “push boundaries and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape.”

Congratulations, Gal. Now excuse us while we watch her speech on loop for the rest of the day.
