Gabrielle Union’s makeup-free selfie is inspiring us to go bare-faced into the world today

Celebrities’ red carpet looks are always great for makeup and hair inspiration, but sometimes less really is more. This week, Gabrielle Union posted a makeup-free selfie to Instagram, proving once and for all that, yes, stars really are *just like us.* Union snapped a selfie looking fresh faced, with her hair tied back, and captioned it, “Just Me.” If you needed any inspiration to just love yourself today, let this be it.
Ever since Alicia Keys penned a Lenny Letter about going makeup-free (with some restrictions) last year and then started making appearances without any eyeliner at all, there’s been a lot of attention on celebs who followed suit.
When you think about it, it’s not all that remarkable. Millions of women everywhere go without makeup every day, just like the millions of women who love their makeup routines and go through withdrawal without any highlighter. Whatever your preference may be, it’s nice to see celebs like Union and Keys make an appearance in public (or on social media) au naturel. It’s a nice reminder that celebrities are just human beings, and if you’re judging your appearance or body based on magazine covers — there’s plenty of other inspiration to be found.
Lots of celebs have embraced the makeup-free selfie and we sort of love them for it. Some of our faves include:

It’s not like any woman has to prove anything by going without makeup. Even Keys said on the Today Show, “I love makeup, too, and it’s all good. It’s about how you feel, it’s about who you are, it’s about just being who you are and not letting anybody tell you who you should be.”
The point is that you shouldn’t feel like you have to prove anything to anyone. If that means rocking the ish out a cat eye, so be it. If it means showing off your natural eyebrows proudly, get at it. Women are often way too hard on themselves when it comes to their appearance, which is why it’s refreshing to see the celebs we adore just being themselves.
