Gabriel Zamora talks about which brand he uses to get killer brows, and what drugstore product he uses to slay zits

At Ipsy’s Gen Beauty event, we caught up with some of our favorite beauty gurus to get the scoop on their past and present makeup routines.

As we’ve learned in the past year, boys in beauty have been everywhere, and that illustrious lineup includes makeup guru Gabriel Zamora. When he’s not causing fans and makeup lovers to crack up with his informative and hilarious YouTube vids, the blue-haired, Mexican-American beauty vlogger is busy being Ipsy’s first male stylist and teaming up with MAC Cosmetics on a lipstick launch for their global influencer collection.

We caught up with Gabriel to talk about his drugstore skincare secrets, his new partnership with MAC, and whether or not we can expect to see a Gabriel Zamora makeup line someday.

How did you first get into makeup?

I first got into makeup because I wanted my eyes to look larger — I have really small eyes. I literally Googled how to make your eyes look bigger and YouTube videos came up. My first product was a white eyeliner from NYX that I bought at a drugstore. It kind of became a segue, and I started to fill my brows, then use concealer to color correct certain areas or hide a pimple. It kind of snowballed into full glam.

How long have you been doing it?

I’ve been putting it on for about five years.

What are some of your favorite products that you can’t live without?

I cannot live without brow products. Benefit’s brow collection…I’m like, “Thank you,” because there are so many different types of products, so many different shades with undertones. To create brows is so much fun. I love mascara, especially the L’Oréal Butterfly mascara! I’m obsessed because it wings them out perfectly. Probably also bronzer because I love being bronzed. Bronzer is probably my go-to, go-to!

Any skincare items you’re in love with?

I love skincare. In 2017, I’m really trying to perfect my skin, really figure it out, and make sure I’m using the right products. I’ve been really obsessed with Philosophy. Their products are just amazing on my skin. Also, the Neutrogena salicylic wipes have cleared up my skin from acne within a week. This is a drugstore product that no one really talks about and it literally just cleared up my skin.

Are there any beauty or style icons that you look up to?

My favorite is Rihanna. The fact that she can just always change it up — go from soft glam to bold glam, heavy glam, no makeup, and rocking bare face. She always switches it up with makeup, hair, and fashion. The way she just constantly evolves herself is such an inspiration to me.

Do you ever want to have your own makeup line?

I don’t see it happening in my near future. I’m just having fun playing with other brands. I don’t want to be limited; I want to play with everyone. I want to be able to wear anybody and not feel any type of way. Right now, I’m doing my first collaboration with MAC Cosmetics. I’m launching my own lipstick color with other influencers from around the world. From the U.S., it’s actually me and Laura Lee.

Any beauty tips or advice for our readers?

Just play with makeup. It always washes off. Buy drugstore first and really see what these products do that way you’re not breaking the bank. Then you can move up to higher end if you want to. Even with MAC, it’s great quality and it’s not even that expensive. Just play with makeup — if you do it wrong, wipe it off, and start again!
