FYI, the poop emoji has a ~secret~ name

Maybe you know this, maybe you don’t know this, I don’t know your life. And maybe it’s just a regular day at the office and suddenly everything you know seems like a LIE because that poop emoji you use so frequently  is SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A PILE OF POOP.

Turns out, the poop emoji is, yes, best known as a “pile of poop.” BUT DID YOU KNOW IT HAS ANOTHER NAME TOO?

Prepare for your mind to be blown. The poop is also known as, “Hankey.” Or, Mr. Hankey, if you want to get super technical.

This name is a call back to a super early South Park episode, specifically Season 1, Episode 9, which happens to be titled, “Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo.” This episode is from 1997. So middle school you (or the middle school boys you once knew) were probably SUPER into Mr. Hankey.

Before you start yelling “HANKEY!!” at everyone and everything you see, know that it’s mostly used in the shortcode for the emoji, like in the communication app, Slack.

And yes, this also means that when the poop emoji was created in 2010, some 13 years AFTER this South Park episode, Mr. Hankey was still fresh on the mind.

No idea why the world is being deprived of a ~true~ Christmas poo emoji, one that includes Hankey actually wearing a Santa hat, because that just seems like the next logical step. Cross your fingers it’s in the next emoji update.
