#FuerzaMexico embodies the resiliance of Mexico, even after a natural disaster
Yesterday morning, Mexico City was hit by 7.1 magnitude earthquake, two weeks after an 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit the southern coast of the country. In a tragic coincidence, yesterday’s quake fell on the anniversary of the earthquake of 1985, which was so deadly it killed at least 9,500 people.
At least 216 people were killed by yesterday’s earthquake, in Mexico City and the surrounding states of Puebla and Morelos. This tragedy is heart-wrenching on many levels, but one thing that’s consistently apparent when Mexico is hit by a natural disaster is how strong the country and its people truly are.

After the quake, people rushed to the street and started helping in any way they could: comforting the grieving, sorting through the rubble, and helping to search for injured parties. Mexico is resilient. It’s been through this before, and it will get through this again. While this doesn’t make the tragedy any easier, what it does do is remind us of the fuerza, or the strength, of both Mexico and its residents.
To help spread this message, as well as to communicate how others can help, the hashtag #FuerzaMexico was created.
Meaning “Mexico Strong,” this tag is a reminder that even in the face of tragedy, Mexico gets through.

One of the most amazing things about this hashtag is that it helps bring attention to the aftermath of the quake, when thousands of volunteers did all they could to help those who were injured. false
There were also plenty of people uuing the hashtag to share ways to help, as well as to support organizations we can donate to — like Topos, a non-profit Mexican rescue team.
