Here’s why we’re sadly probably never going to see Frozone’s wife in The Incredibles

In a few short months, we’re going to be reunited with all our super friends, when Incredibles 2 finally hits the big screen. It’s been 14 long years since the first film blasted into our hearts, and it’s safe to assume that you’ve been quoting the original film for the last decade and a half. The movie gave us such iconic lines like, “If everyone’s super, no one is,” along with the classic, “NO CAPES.”

But it’s Frozone’s “Honey, where is my supersuit?” that has really cemented itself in the pop culture lexicon. It can be used in a variety of different situations, even when you’re not actually trying to suit up yourself and save the day. While Frozone (non-super name: Lucius Best, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) certainly steals just about every scene he’s in during 2004’s Incredibles, are we ever going to meet his just-as-iconic scene stealing off-screen wife, Honey?

And yes, Frozone’s wife is named Honey, so calling her “Honey,” is not just a term of endearment. (The more you know! ?)

For those hoping we might get another husband and wife superhero team in Incredibles 2…that’s really something we’re going to have to hold out for in Incredibles 3. During a recent press day at Pixar ahead of the release of the film, returning director Brad Bird explained that yes, the idea of including Honey in the movie was tossed around, but in the end, “[she’s] funnier as a voice.” 

However, we will actually see some version of Honey. According to Bird, a Honey character was actually designed for the movie, but when the decision was made to keep her off-screen, she was repurposed into a brand new super. However, don’t expect to see this Honey 2.0 a lot in the movie.

“We actually went through all the trouble of designing a character and the design appears in the movie, but not as Frozone’s wife,” he told the group at Pixar. “We do use her design and she is a hero. There’s not a lot of screen time on it. The problem is we have a lot of different things that we want the movie to be about and the two Incredibles movies are already the longest movies in Pixar, and they are never happy about that. They’re like, ‘Ahhh, why’s your movie so long?’”

So while including Honey in the movie isn’t completely out of the question, it sounds like the team behind Incredibles is going to keep her off-screen — but always still yelling at Lucius. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.
