A ‘Frozen’ sequel might be happening a lot sooner than we thought
Let’s be real, it was only a matter of time. Considering that Disney’s Frozen quickly became the highest grossing animated film ever — and was rapidly added to the Disney parks, along with an upcoming ride, an ice show, hordes of merchandise, and an arc on ABC’s Once Upon A Time — I think we all knew, deep down inside, that there would be a sequel. Honestly, it’d be foolish not to do a sequel considering the pull of the movie’s two loving sisters. Well, that sequel might be happening a lot sooner than we all anticipated.
Just recently, Disney went and registered a bunch of domain names, which is common practice for studios. The sooner they register the names, the sooner they can lock down websites for upcoming projects. It’s often done so no one else can go ahead and claim those domains, all precautionary stuff. Sometimes domains are bought by studios and never used, sometimes they’re saved for the future, and sometimes they’re used rather quickly. Well, one of these newly registered domain names happens to be “Strange Magic.” Sure, that could very well be for another upcoming Disney project, or (as the Internet is hypothesizing) it could be the Frozen sequel!
The thing about the phrasing, “strange magic” is that the words are said in Frozen, which leads us (and many others) to believe that Strange Magic is totally the sequel’s title.When Elsa first lets her powers go (sorry), the evil Duke of Weselton refers to the icing over of things as “strange magic.” Frozen 2: Strange Magic does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? It’s a lot better than Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time.
We might be getting excited for nothing here, but this also might be totally going to happen. Animated films take years to make, so it’s possible that Disney is simply just gearing up for this inevitable release, and toying around with this as a working title for the film which could be subject to change. For example, at one point Brave was known as The Bear and the Bow. This could very well be the test drive for Frozen 2.
But real talk, Elsa’s magic is kind of strange. The sequel could dive further into the backstory of her powers, and no one would complain because that means we’d get Olaf back, too.
Still, though, this is still speculation. But there’s no denying the registered names have sent the internet into a frenzy. In the meantime don’t mind us, we’ll just be sitting here watching Frozen five more times in our adult-sized Frozen onesies, waiting for confirmation or denial from the powers that be at Disney.
