Winter came early, because the first look at the “Frozen” musical’s Elsa and Anna is here

Listen up, Frozen fans! You’re going to want to build a snowman all over again. That’s because the first picture from the upcoming Broadway adaptation of Frozen(with actors in costume!)has been released.

The behind-the-scenes picture arrives via Entertainment Weekly, and it features Anna (Patti Murin), Elsa (Caissie Levy), Kristoff (Jelani Alladin), and Hans (John Riddle) looking all kinds of magnificent onstage.

Even though the four look pretty much exactly how we’d picture our beloved Frozen characters IRL, director Michael Grandage told Entertainment Weekly that there’s going to be a lot of tweaks and updates to the musical.

“I’m not particularly interested in slavishly replicating a movie onstage, because it won’t challenge anybody," he said. "We’ve got so many assets at our disposal where we can take that whole experience further. "We can present things in new ways. We’ve got a bigger narrative arc. We’ve got more songs than the movie, and an opportunity to develop storylines in greater depth."

YUP, you read that right. There’s going to be brand new songs debuting in the stage version — 14(!!) to be exact — and they’re coming from the same crew that penned the film’s music.

And even though we’re going to miss Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell so, so much, Grandage added that the actresses who play Anna and Elsa have forged a bond that the audience will love.

“The camaraderie that’s needed between Patti and Caissie, in terms of what goes on onstage, is amplified by the fact that those two, in life and in their work, seem to be very genuinely bonded together, says Grandage. “They take it seriously, in a good way. "They want to present Anna and Elsa in a very beautiful, very meaningful way, and watching that develop in rehearsal has been quite profoundly moving to me because the point about this story is that they get pulled apart early on."

Yep, we’re already feeling all the Arendelle feels.

If you happen to live in Denver right now (you lucky, lucky duck) or are game to travel, you can check out Frozen‘s try-out, which begins today and goes through October 1st. Everyone else will have to wait until the show hits Broadway in February 2018. TBH, it’s already marked on our calendars.
