Here’s a fun fact about ‘Frozen’ that will totally boggle your mind

Princess Anna and (future) Queen Elsa grow up without their parents in Arendelle. As children, their parents leave on a sea voyage, promising to return soon. However, they’re quickly lost at sea, and Elsa refuses to build any more snowmen. This is sad, heart wrenching, and probably made you cry roughly 5 minutes into Frozen. However, according to Frozen‘s co-director, Chris Buck, the parents didn’t really die at sea, and instead went on to lead a very interesting life elsewhere.

In a Reddit AMA last year, Buck and Frozen‘s co-director, Jennifer Lee, revealed that even though we only see the parents for a few minutes in Frozen, they’ve got an entire backstory worked out for them. According to Lee, the parents were on their way to a wedding (Whose wedding? Rapunzel and Flynn’s). But their ship got caught in a storm, and as Buck writes, “they got washed up on a shore in a jungle island. The queen gave birth to a baby boy. They build a treehouse. They get eaten by a leopard…”

If that sounds familiar, it’s because that’s the plot of Tarzan, which Buck just happened to direct for Disney, too. This expanded story makes Tarzan the younger brother of Anna and Elsa, but is this really true? Or simply a story Buck has made up to completely BLOW OUR MINDS.

MTV News caught up with Buck recently, and asked him this important question. Are Anna, Elsa, and Tarzan siblings? As Buck explains:

So in Buck’s mind, yes, they’re all intertwined together (and Buck directed Surf’s Up, as well).

But then again, this is just Buck’s mind. If you want to believe that, too, you can, because as Buck explains, “That’s the spirit of Disney.” So while we probably won’t see Anna, Elsa, and Tarzan hanging out together anytime soon, we can at least imagine it. And imagine the amazing spin-off movie about Olaf meeting Terk for the first time.
