Why everyone thinks Elsa is turning into Daenerys Targaryen in the darker Frozen 2

On September 23rd, a full-length trailer for Frozen 2 dropped, and we’re literally frozen with excitement. The sequel to the original 2013 Frozen is darker, edgier, and filled with more danger and deceit. Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) must uncover the truth behind Elsa’s powers. Until then, the kingdom is not safe—perhaps from its own queen. And this is all sounding vaguely familiar, isn’t it?

The Game of Thrones echoes may be because the overall mood of Frozen 2 is darker than the OG. Or they may be due to the fact that silver-haired Elsa is a newly-appointed queen who can barely control her own powers and emotions. Whatever it is, a lot of people are getting Daenerys Targaryen vibes from Elsa 2.0, and we can’t say we blame them.

Watch the trailer and see for yourself. Is it just us, or is Elsa the PG-version of the Mad Queen from Game of Thrones?

Think about it. Elsa experiences parental death, then feels a calling to the forbidden forest (like Dany’s calling to the Iron Throne in Westeros). Anna senses Elsa is being weird. Elsa causes chaos and destruction in her own kingdom, yells at Anna for “following her into fire,” and may just lose herself to power. Oh, and it looks like she has a little new friend, who seems a lot like Daenery’s baby dragons.

If that doesn’t sound like a Mad Queen in the making, we don’t know what does.

And if our predictions are correct and there is a Mad Queen plot line, we certainly aren’t mad about it. We can only hope that Elsa’s Mad Queen phase ends much better than Dany’s did.

Overall, Frozen 2 looks bomb. We’re way excited to learn more about our favorite animated queen (and her cast of friends and family).

Frozen 2 will be in theaters November 22nd. Long live the Mad Queen.
