Freida Pinto just joined the “Jungle Book: Origins” cast

Freida Pinto has signed on to play the role of Mowgli’s adoptive mom in the Warner Bros. film Jungle Book: Origins — which is not to be confused with Disney’s The Jungle BookYes, there are two films being made about the same story at the same time, and yes, it’s confusing. But it’s a great story, so we’ll take it.

Not only will Pinto be lending her voice, she’ll also be playing one of the real-life roles alongside Matthew Rhys and Rohan Chand. Pinto grew up in India, so she’s extra excited about joining the cast.

“I play Mowgli’s adoptive mother, so I’m very, very excited about it,” Pinto told Entertainment Tonight. “I read The Jungle Book and watched the TV series in India growing up, and for me, to finally be part of the film that reminds me so much of my childhood is just amazing.”

“It’s one of those films that I feel, no matter what age group you are, you’re going to enjoy that film, and I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve done something like that, because most of my films have not been good enough for children,” she added. “A little too intense, so I’m very happy to finally be doing a film that can be watched by kids.”

We are so looking forward to seeing Pinto in Jungle Book: Origins. And now we not only have one Jungle Book movie to look forward to, we have two. And they both will probably be incredible.
