Watch Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, and Judy Garland all dance to “Uptown Funk”
It’s no secret that Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk” is the catchiest song on the planet. There are already a ton of parodies and mashups out there — like, a ton of them. Turns out, there’s another mashup you didn’t know you needed: “Uptown Funk” as the soundtrack to classic dance movies of yesteryear. This might be the greatest, most joyful mashup we’ve ever seen. If it doesn’t make you want to get up and dance, we don’t know what will.
This video is more than a mashup. It’s an homage to the evolution of dance through the years and a love letter to dance on film. It goes all the way back to 1926 with Love ‘em and Leave ‘em. It hits the 1930s with Born to Dance and 42nd Street. It touches on the 1940s with On the Town, then hits the 1950s with Kiss Me Kate and Singin’ in the Rain. And there are dozens and dozens of favorites in between.
It’s so perfectly timed to the music, it looks seriously real — like Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and Shirley Temple were born to dance to the groovy beats of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. It’s even more proof that “Uptown Funk” is the great equalizer, the song that transcends generations and is loved by all.
