This ‘Freaks and Geeks’ star is writing the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie. No bigs.
Big news, fellow Freaks and Geeks fans: Our little Sam Weir has grown up right before our eyes, and now he’s going to take a stab at writing this next Spider-Man movie. That’s right, the super-buzzy forthcoming blockbuster, starring Tom Holland, will be penned by our favorite all-time “geek.” Sam, we are so proud of you.
OK, OK, it’s not really our Sam from Freaks and Geeks, but it is John Francis Daley who starred as Sam in the brilliant-but-canceled cult TV show. JFD then went onto star in FOX’s Bones (love and miss you, sweets). Along with acting, he’s also a top-notch writer. He, along with his writing partner, Jonathan M. Goldstein, wrote the screenplay for Horrible Bosses (plus the story for Horrible Bosses 2), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, and the upcoming Vacation reboot. Now, according to Deadline, these two are headed into the Marvel world to hang out with a young Peter Parker.
The pieces for this Spider-Man reboot/revival/re-tooling/re-do are slowly following into place, one web at a time. The movie may still be two years away from being released — with a tentative date of July 28th, 2017 — but that doesn’t mean we can’t start getting excited for it now. And we are super pumped for Sam JFD, too.
My Spidey senses tell me that 9th-grader-Sam would be super excited to learn he grows up and gets the keys to the Spider-Man kingdom, even though he’ll pretend he’s “too cool” for it.
