Fox is turning one of our favorite Christmas movies into a live musical

Every year, on Christmas Eve, TBS begins its 24-hour marathon of the beloved holiday film, A Christmas Story, for us to binge-watch. But this Christmas we’ll get to see a new take on the classic when Fox turns A Christmas Story into a live television musical. Yep, we’ll get to see that kid stick his tongue to a flag pole, but with music!

Fox’s adaptation will get a few new songs, written and produced by the team behind La La Land, including executive producer Marc Platt, and “City of Stars” writers Pasek and Paul. So we know the music is going to be killer.

SO MUCH NOSTALGIA

And the film’s many iconic scenes make for great musical fodder. “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out” is one of the song names, thank goodness. Furthermore, Pasek and Paul actually first adapted the show around 2009, and A Christmas Story: The Musical toured nationally.

Fox also announced another new live musical: the hugely influential Rent, which Platt will also produce. The musical doesn’t yet have a release date.

Fox is feeling pretty good after its last musical, Grease: Live, aired to acclaim from audiences and critics. Meanwhile, NBC is still working on its own live shows; its next will be Jesus Christ Superstar, set for Easter, in 2018. Whether you love to watch or hate-watch, you have to admit, live musicals are always great television.

Like when Ralphie goes to meet Santa

Or when this poor kid makes a very bad decision

Or that beautiful Christmas dinner that was so tragically destroyed

We’ll get our bunny pajamas and BB-gun ready for December.
