We found the ideal summer vacation destination for every feminist who loves baseball

Summer’s so close (literally this.close!) and if you’re a feminist sports fan, we found you a dreamy, baseball-centric summer vacation destination you’ll love. Perhaps you’ve heard of it — the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. But did you know the BHoF is home to the most incredible exhibit celebrating women’s contributions to the sport?

Yes, friends! It’s called “Diamond Dreams: Women in Baseball” and it’s the exhibit that inspired the greatest sports movie of all time, A League of Their Own, about an all-women baseball team that forms during World War II while the men are abroad. It stars Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, and many other badass women we love, so if you haven’t seen it yet — DO IT NOW.

And oh yeah, did we mention that July 1st is the 25th anniversary of the film’s release?

So obviously this summer vacation destination is *ideal* for 2017 — especially if you love baseball (but honestly you should go to the BHoF, even if you don’t).

First opened in 1988, “Diamond Dreams” drew 1,000 visitors on its first day (at that time, the museum typically drew about 300 visitors in a day). Among those 1,000 opening-day visitors was Penny Marshall, future director of A League of Their Own.

Also among those opening-day visitors were 150 women from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which lasted from 1943 to 1954. They spoke to Marshall, and inspired her to create the movie that would thereafter motivate generations of girls to play sports.
