The Foo Fighters ‘Rickrolled’ the Westboro Baptist Church
If there’s one thing the Westboro Baptist Church learned over the weekend, it’s not to mess with The Foo.
The hate group, who wielded totally hateful signs outside a Foo Fighters concert in Kansas City, Missouri, were interrupted by a passing pickup truck. Think of said truck as a magical chariot of sorts.
Standing in the bed of the truck were Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, blasting Rick Astley’s ’80s hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Drummer Taylor Hawkins held a sign saying “You got rick roll’d . . . again” and an unknown man in a multicolored Speedo held a sign that read, “Keep it clean.” Incredible, to say the least.
Side bar (according to Wikipedia) — RickRolling: “an Internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song “Never Gonna Give You Up”. The meme is a bait and switch; a person provides a hyperlink which is seemingly relevant to the topic at hand, but actually leads to Astley’s video.”
In response, concert-going fans gathered around the truck, drowning out any and all inflammatory nonsense coming from the Westboro protesters.
Kansas City fans weren’t the only ones who got a taste of the The Foo. Thanks to all the fan footage, the band’s hilarious counter-protest was met with praise on the Internet too.

In a rather unexpected turn, the Westboro Baptist Church responded to the counter protest with a shard of humor, Tweeting:
This is not the first time the band has trolled the notorious hate group. The band serenaded protesters while dressed as mountain fearing country singers in 2011 at the same venue.
