On Wednesday, February 14th, there was a deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Law enforcement confirmed that there were 17 casualties and 23 injured in the shooting. The most up-to-date information came from students posting on social media and parents who communicated with their children via calls and text.
The Florida shooter is 19-year-old former student Nikolas Cruz. He was found in the neighboring Coral Springs community and arrested.
And now, we’ve learned the names of the Florida school shooting victims. The students are Jaime Guttenberg, Martin Duque, Gina Montalto, Alyssa Alhadeff, Joaquin Oliver, Meadow Pollack, Peter Wang, Nicholas Dworet, Alaina Petty, Carmen Schentrup, Cara Loughran, Luke Hoyer, Alex Schachter, and Helena Ramsay. There were also three adults: assistant football coach Aaron Feis, athletic director Chris Hixon, and geography teacher Scott Beigel.
The first two confirmed Florida school shooting victims were Jaime Guttenberg and Aaron Feis. Guttenberg was a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. She attended the school with her brother, Jesse, who made it home safely. A reported 2,840 people shared Guttenberg’s picture on Facebook when she was still missing after the shooting. false false
Feis was an assistant football coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. According to reports, Feis, a former security guard, was one of the first to respond to the shooting. “I heard Aaron say, ‘No, that is not firecrackers.’ That’s the last I heard of him,” said Willis May, the school’s head football coach. Feis survived the shooting but died in the hospital later that day.
It is with Great sadness that our Football Family has learned about the death of Aaron Feis. He was our Assistant Football Coach and security guard. He selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories pic.twitter.com/O181FvuHl3
