The unexpected way Florence + The Machine inspired the new “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”
Felicity Jones, the British actress who stole our hearts as Stephen Hawking’s wife in The Theory of Everything (and received her first Oscar nomination), will soon portray street delinquent turned Rebel Alliance fighter Jyn Erso in the Star Wars spinoff Rogue One.
She told the Hollywood Reporter that she made a scrapbook for the role in Rogue One assembling pictures, literature and news clippings that she felt were relevant for the part. However, her biggest piece of inspiration came from music videos of Florence + the Machine.
We can totally see why. Florence + the Machine’s videos are very cinematic, almost ethereal.

“So much of Jyn is movement,” Felicity said of her Rogue One character Jyn. “It became a very important part of finding her. She walks almost a bit like a caged animal. Her fight sequences become like dances.”
Felicity is currently starring opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’s Inferno, of the Da Vinci Code franchise. She’s also soon be seen playing a single mom with cancer in A Monster Calls. As the lead in Rogue One, she’ll be almost solely responsible for the film’s success. We’re not at all worried that she’ll carry it to legendary status.
