Here’s a menstrual cup made just for mess-free period sex
As we’ve learned before, sex during your period can be very healthy and beneficial. It can help alleviate cramps, shorten your period and just feel really, really good. Those who tend to refrain from having sex while on the rag usually have one specific reason why. They’re afraid of the mess. After all, there’s a reason why people give period sex the gory nickname, “murder scene sex” — they don’t want to deal with bloody bedsheets.
While the simple gesture of putting down a towel or an old concert tee before the act can help, a new period product is coming out specifically made to prevent messes. It’s called the Flex. The disc-shaped device acts like a barrier to the cervix so it blocks blood from coming out. According to Techcrunch, the disposable discs can be worn for up to 12 hours and you just throw it away when you’re done. They are also hypoallergenic, BPA-free and won’t cause toxic shock syndrome.
The Flex, which is on the left, seems comparable to the already existing SoftCup, seen here on the right.
Curious? Here’s how you can try the Flex for yourself. From Techcrunch:
“Flex will open for pre-orders in April and ship in September. 20,000 people have already signed up to try it. Eventually they could be sold in stores, though the price isn’t public yet. For now, you can register on The Flex Company’s site for a free sample.”
While period sex and the subsequent mess it may produce shouldn’t even be a big deal, there are people out there who would appreciate having this option. Nothing should stop you from having sexytime!
