People are freaking out over this five ingredient green smoothie
In the wide world of smoothies, there is a definite hierarchy. The bigger the ingredient list, the closer to the health gods. Kale goji-berry triple coconut banana dream with chocolate whey protein and chia seeds, anyone?
But for one Manhattan café and juice bar, five ingredients is all it takes — and people have been freaking out about it, including the Village Voice. Terri, which is located in Chelsea and the Financial District, is famous for its Green Power smoothie, comprised of only kale (still going strong), pear, banana, almond butter, and soy milk. New Yorkers can’t seem to get enough of it.
Buzzfeed Life recently spoke to the café’s guest relations manager, Jeffrey LaPadula, to get the skinny on the recipe – and it’s surprisingly simple.
- 1/2 banana
- 1 cup kale
- 1/2 pear
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1 cup plain soy milk
Next, chop up all of the solid ingredients and almond butter and freeze them in an air-tight cup. When you’re ready to sashay into smoothie nirvana, add soy milk to the top of the cup and blend. And voila: an instantly delicious smoothie that is equal parts filling and fabulous.
As Buzzfeed points out, it’s not necessarily the healthiest of smoothies (the soy milk they use at Terri has a fair amount of sugar), but it’s definitely one of the yummiest and is well worth a try.
