Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey are hosting the first-ever United State of Women Summit
Today marks a momentous occasion for women everywhere. At the White House, first lady Michelle Obama and media mogul Oprah Winfrey are hosting the first-ever United State of Women Summit, which aims to bring together a diverse group of women who are to discuss equal pay, sexual assault, health, and education.
“There’s a lot that’s been done by and for women and girls, but there’s still plenty to do,” reads the summit’s website. “Convened by the White House, this Summit will rally all of us together to celebrate what we’ve achieved, and how we’re going to take action moving forward. Covering key gender equality issues, we’ll make a powerful difference in our collective future.”
So everyone can take part in this important conversation, the United State of Women Summit is broadcasting their event live. Here, you can soon watch First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey discuss the challenges they’ve both faced over the years, in addition to addressing what can be done to support the next generation of pioneering women. This specific conversation will take place around 6:15pm EST. Plus, you can tweet along using this Twitter hashtag: #StateOfWomen.
Not only is this event important because it’s the first of its kind – it’s significant because it’s creating conversations surrounding women’s issues.
