A 22-year-old woman’s brave first hand account of the Paris attacks

Since Friday night’s string of terrorist attacks in Paris, bits and pieces of information have eked their way out into the world, giving us a more complete picture of what has turned out to be the most deadly terrorist attack in Europe since 2004.

We now know that at least 129 people were killed, with hundreds more wounded, many of them seriously. We also know that for every victim, there have been dozens of survivors, people who, for the rest of their lives, will work to cope with the trauma of Friday’s events.

Many of these survivors are handling their grief in the aftermath of the attacks privately. Others, have decided to share their stories publicly, including Isobel Bowdery, one of the survivors of the mass shooting at music venue Le Bataclan. On Saturday morning, the 22-year-old shared what she saw and details on how she survived through a public Facebook post that has gone global. It’s a moving account of bravery, selflessness, and quiet courage in the face of extreme hatred and one that will stay with us for a long time.
