Here’s what your first ever e-mail probably sounded like
When a few BuzzFeed staff members were asked to find and read the very first email they ever sent, we braced ourselves for the worst (aka, cringe-worthy grammar, bountiful emoticons, and a painful amount of “lol”s). But when ye olde e-mails were read aloud, they were actually sweetly nostalgic.
After learning each staff member’s first e-mail address (one was “DarkAngel,” and another was “BlueShine” which is amazing), we are immediately privy to their ancient messages from long ago. One is an e-mail to a high-school teacher, wishing him a happy summer:
Remember when everyone made square smiley faces? =] Let’s bring square smiley faces back, OK?
Our e-mails were totally innocuous, and maybe even unnecessary —like asking about the weather (did Weather.com not exist yet? We forget). And sending a reminder that mom is coming!
And finally, we get to an e-mail that was sent to a crush, and it’s just so adorbs, our heart can’t take it.
Take a look at how it all went down right here. Maybe it’ll inspire you to rummage through your old AOL account. ;]
