And here’s an official goodbye to the first canceled show of the new season

Streaming networks like Hulu and Netflix are changing the landscape of television. If you haven’t shed a tear yet about your favorite show getting the axe, that’s because networks don’t seem to be canceling any shows for the fall season. Networks appear to be reluctant to cancel shows in the off-chance that they later have a successful life on streaming sites. Instead, networks are opting to shorten episode orders, making way for other new shows while being able to avoid officially halting production on new ones. How long will this period of “no cancellations” last, though? We now know the answer because we have our first cancellation of the fall season.

Shows like Blood & Oil, Minority Report, and The Player have all gotten the reduction treatment, having their episode orders slimmed down for the season. One unlucky show did officially get canceled by ABC, though.

Wicked City starring Ed Westwick (yes, Chuck from Gossip Girl), Erika Christensen (Parenthood), and Jeremy Sisto (AKA Elton from Clueless). Talk about a trifecta of awesomeness! We were all hoping for a huge success with this all-star lineup of talented actors, but alas, the show has already gotten the axe. ABC cut the episode order down to eight (which is currently being filmed), and then announced that it would be the show’s last episode all together.

Wicked City, set in the 1980’s, is a crime drama that follows two LAPD detectives (Sisto and Gabriel Luna) who take on cases involving serial killers (Westwick and Christensen). The show has only had three episodes air so far, but the ratings have been extremely low. The most recent episode only pulled in 1.7 million viewers with a 0.4 rating among adults in the 18-49 age group.

Dear TV gods, can we get Chuck Bass, er, Ed Westwick on a new show immediately? It’s been too long since we’ve had the privilege of seeing him weekly on our TV screens!
