Here’s how to find your super-secret Uber rating
Raise your hand if you’ve taken at least one cab or Uber ride in your life during which you’ve behaved less appropriately than you care to admit. Let’s be real: Most of us have. Hopefully we tipped well, apologized, and behaved better next time.
Well, next time you order an Uber, you might want to think a little harder about your behavior (which we should be doing anyway because, you know, respect). The reason? You probably have an Uber rating. That’s right – Uber drivers are totally giving passengers a taste of their own medicine by rating them on a 1-to-5 scale using the Uber app, which then shares these ratings with other drivers.
According to the app, “After each trip, riders and drivers are given the opportunity to rate one another based on their trip experience. The rating system works to make sure that the most respectful riders and drivers are using Uber. Ratings are always reported as averages, and neither riders nor drivers will see the individual rating left for a particular trip.”
While our first reactions might be shock – especially if our own ratings are less than savory – this is actually a pretty amazing idea. For one, this news may help encourage passengers to be a little more respectful than perhaps they usually are. Also, there’s the whole safety thing — how else would a driver know if a past Uber passenger was not only unpleasant, but straight-up belligerent? Driving strangers around is already dangerous enough, so anything to help Uber drivers stay safe is awesome in our book.
So how can you check your own Uber rating? It’s actually pretty easy, once you know where to go. Simply open the Uber app, then follow these steps:
At the top-left-hand corner of the screen, touch the profile icon.
1. Touch HELP.
2. Touch Account.
3. Touch I’d like to know my rating.
4. Agree to the message asking whether it’s OK for Uber to send you your rating.
5. Check the inbox of the e-mail address you have on file, where Uber will send your rating report.
Hopefully we’ll be OK with what we find in our e-mail inboxes. And if not? It might be time to adjust our behavior.
Are you tipping your Uber drivers? If not, it could be hurting your rating.
