Inspiring quotes to help you scale the terrifying mountain that is finals

As a recent college grad, I’m still pre-tty envious of all you living in dorms, eating in school cafeterias, and studying for finals. That’s right, I miss studying. Like, actually. A few weeks ago, I bought a book and started underlining interesting passages, just for kicks. Who does that? Weird alumna, like me.

December is traditionally the time for finals, and if you find yourself wigging out in the dark corners of the library just know that when you graduate you might be one of those freaky grads who super misses finals period. I’m serious. So soak it in, embrace the stress, relish the late nights.

And if that sounds just too far-fetched, here are some quotes about learning and life that will hopefully keep you cramming and turning those text book pages. God speed.

“All [success] is, is doing your work and staying focused.” – Mindy Kaling

“Some advice: keep the flame of curiosity and wonderment alive, even when studying for boring exams. That is the well from which we scientists draw our nourishment and energy. And also, learn the math. Math is the language of nature, so we have to learn this language.” – Michio Kaku

“I think it’s healthy for a person to be nervous. It means you care — that you work hard and want to give a great performance. You just have to channel that nervous energy into the show.” – Beyoncé

“I was probably more scared of my high school exams than I was of the Oscars. At the time you think it’s everything and if you don’t do well, your life’s over. Opportunities are gone. So the more you do it, the less the fear is present.” – Hugh Jackman

“I like pressure. Pressure doesn’t make me crack. It’s enabling. I eat pressure, and there might be times when I get a bad feeling in my gut that this might be too much, but you feel pressure when you’re not doing something, you know?” – Louis C.K

“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” – Vidal Sassoon

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain

“If you can sleep, breathe, work hard, wish for the best and do everything you can to prepare, I bet you’ll do well — as well as you can. And that’s all anybody can ask for.” – Amy Poehler

“Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but it doesn’t get you anywhere.” – Anonymous

“Just believe in yourself. Even if you don’t, pretend that you do, and at some point you will.” – Venus Williams

“I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.” – The Little Engine That Could

I know you can! So get to work on that lab report, finish that research paper, and study that insanely detailed outline for statistics. You can do it; you’ve done it before. And just think of mopey post-graduates like me who secretly miss drinking 20 cups of coffee, hibernating in the library for 12 hours, and taking a glorious five-hour nap when it’s all over. I know, it’s weird.
