We finally know the reason why the mom from “That’s So Raven” left — and it’s devastating
We know T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh best as Raven’s mother Tanya Baxter on That’s So Raven, a role which she played incredibly well. She kept the whole family in line, and was basically the glue that held them all together — after all, that’s what mothers are for! But then, after Season 3, something strange happened: Tanya all but disappeared from the show.
The story That’s So Raven went with was that Tanya had moved to England to go to law school. In our That’s So Raven dreams, she’s out there somewhere crushing it as a high-powered lawyer. The internet and Disney fandom like to theorize, however, and the most popular theory for Keymáh’s early exit from the show was that she was likely bored, or unhappy with the direction of her character.
However, it turns out that this explanation is not true — she recently opened up in an interview with Madame Noire about her time on That’s So Raven and why she left, and it’s definitely not what we thought.
The thing is, when she started the show, she had only agreed to do three seasons — the first three that she was on. During that time, her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, and she became her caregiver.
It sounds like the internet rumors were completely false, and T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh left the show for completely selfless reasons. While it was likely a heartbreaking time for her family, you can’t get back those moments with a loved one, and we’re glad she made the right choice for her.
