We’re finally going to meet this “Grey’s Anatomy” character’s father

Part of why we love Grey’s Anatomy so much is because the show has a near limitless amount of the character’s backstories to mine for storylines. And it seems that the show is doing just that, as we’re finally going to learn more about Jackson’s father.

We may have a bit of a longer wait until Grey’s Anatomy and the rest of the T.G.I.T. lineup, returns (Grey’s, How to Get Away With Murder, and the return of Scandal  for it’s sixth season were all pushed back to accommodate at 20/20 special on Donald Trump), but at least we got some good news earlier this week. It seems that there are no plans to cancel Grey’s Anatomy anytime soon, which is okay with us.

Now it seems that when Grey’s returns, we’re going to delve deeper into one specific character’s past.

While he’s become a staple of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (hey, his mom did BUY the hospital, right?), we know little about Jackson Avery’s (played by Jesse Williams) past, especially when it comes to his father.

Well, according to Entertainment Weekly, that’s all going to change as Jackson’s father is going to be introduced in an upcoming episode, and we’re SUPER intrigued.

The news comes courtesy of Sarah Drew, who plays the mother of Jackon’s child and his ex-wife, April Kepner.

"We are going to meet Jackson’s father," Drew revealed, while keeping details about casting close to her chest.

Given that we’ve met Jackson’s mother, Catherine Avery (played by Debbie Allen), and his grandfather, Harper Avery (played by Chelcie Ross), details about Jackson’s father have been slim on the ground. However, it looks like that’s all about to change.

Drew also let slip that there was going to be a Jackson and April focused episode soon, too. Perhaps we *might* see the couple reunite?

"There’s going to be a Jackson and April episode, just the two of them. We’re dealing with a case and it’s just the two of us in Montana for the whole episode," she said. "They’re forced to be in the same space working together with no distraction outside of the norm, outside of anybody that they know, outside of any of the history. They’re going through something pretty big. They don’t start off in the best place when we find them on the journey."

Drew teased that the Kevin McKidd directed episode had already been shot and would air sometime in March. She also said that it would be “a real turning point” for the pair, and that it was “tonally different than a lot of the episodes.”

So, not only are we getting a closer look at Jackson’s family when Grey’s Anatomy returns, but there’s also the potential for Japril reunion. Well, color us happy!

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on January 26th, along with How to Get Away With Murder and the season 6 premiere of Scandal.
