‘Hunger Games’ Doritos and other snacks inspired by our favorite movies

I’m almost positive that kids will eat anything as long as one of their favorite movie characters is on the package. Isn’t that the reason we’re all still taking Flintstone vitamins on a daily basis? Whatever the blockbuster du jour is, you know there are going to be some ridiculous edible-product tie-ins associated with it. One of the big blockbusters coming up is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Katniss has partnered with Doritos because WHY NOT? It doesn’t look like we’ll see any cool District 13-inspired flavors (because I don’t honestly think we’d want to eat any of those), but I can guarantee you that I’ll stock up on any sort of food product that has Peeta on the front of it. Bakers have good taste, you guys.

The Hunger Games isn’t the only movie to rely on our hunger to promote their movie. Next time you’re shopping on an empty stomach, be on the lookout for other strange, and mouth-watering, film-inspired foods.

1. Scotchy Scotch Scotch Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream

This ice cream is “kind of a big deal.” It’s butterscotch ice cream with butterscotch swirl, and it’s perfect for right after your jazz flute lessons. First released in 2013—to coincide with Anchorman 2 hitting theaters—the flavor is now in ‘limited release.’ But, thanks to Ben and Jerry’s handy ice cream locator, something that should actually come as a standard app on all phones, you can find your nearest grocery store that carries it.

2. Gremlins Cereal

I thought we weren’t supposed to feed the Gremlins? Right? Going against that notion, the cereal was tied into the movie of the same name, and it was basically Cap’n Crunch, but in Gremlin shapes, which basically resembled tiny teddy bears. Immediately after the movie left the theaters, it was pulled from the shelves and breakfast got a little less exciting. There were also free stickers in each box—11 stickers in all—and yes, if you collected enough box tops you could send away for your own plus Gremlin (plus $9.95 shipping and handling).

3. Batman Soda

For this one, it appears you need to be living in Sweden to get your hands on some original black-can Batman soda. Some Internet users say that the soda was orange-flavored, other say it was fizzy apple juice. I have no idea what the can actually says because the description is written in Swedish.

4. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans

Here are some jellybeans we can get completely behind. Due to the insane popularity of everything Harry Potter, Bertie Bott got their own beans and we felt almost as cool as we would picking them up at Weasleys‘ Wizard Wheezes. Just be warned, the flavors aren’t the most favorable. Sure, you’ve got your strawberry and grape and root beer, but there are also flavors like boogers, freshly cut grass and burnt popcorn. Don’t know what boogers taste like? Oh, you’ll know after you accidentally chomp down on one. That’s a flavor you can’t un-taste.

5. Jurassic Park Crunch Cereal

Basically this cereal was just Lucky Charms with dinosaurs, so that automatically makes it fifteen times better (because dinosaurs are awesome). I mean, tiny colored marshmallows in the shape of triceratops? It’s shocking to know that this cereal is no longer produced, because there’s nothing about this breakfast staple that suggests it wouldn’t be popular for years to come. Also, if you opened the box, and it roared—which honestly would have been terrifying—you won a Lost World adventure. I don’t even care what that entails. Sign. Me. Up.

6. James Bond Ice Pop

Once upon a time in England, Del Monte polled women in the United Kingdom to see which iconic British star they’d most like on a Popsicle. In a landslide victory, Daniel Craig as James Bond emerging from the water in 2006’s Casino Royale won. It came in blueberry, pomegranate, and cranberry flavors. . I am a huge James Bond fan, but this is a little too much even for me. However, it really does look a lot like him, which is both fascinating and downright weird.

7. C3PO’s Cereal

Clearly, the easiest movie-tie in for food is the token cereal box. Released in stores three years after Return of the Jedi, this cereal was shaped like 8’s and was “crunchy.” The boxes always had a prize with them, whether it was a cut-out Star Wars mask, trading cards, or coupons to send away for action figures. Also, its commercial was pretty hilarious.

8. Transformers Strawberry & Peanut Butter M&Ms

I love Transformers. I love M&Ms. I love strawberries. I love peanut butter a whole lot. However, mixing all of those things together? Eh, not so much. Also, what about ‘Autobots‘ seems to mesh with fruit-flavored M&Ms?

9. Princess Fruit Snacks

I’ll let you in on a little secret: the quickest way to my heart is to bring me fruit snacks. There are never enough princess-shaped pieces in each tiny pink pouch, and DO NOT try to tell me I’m wrong for eating two or three of them at a time. They’re just delicious. Have you tried the Frozen ones? While they do taste exactly like all the other ones, it’s pretty cool to eat at tiny little Sven-shaped gummy.
