Fifty Shades author E.L. James has a new book coming out—here’s what we know

After writing the series that stirred the loins of millions and had women breathlessly googling erotic flogging tools, Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James is back with a new romance novel. Her forthcoming novel is called The Mister and though it does not follow Fifty Shades characters Christian Grey or Anastasia Steele, it treads in familiar pastures.

James describes The Mister as “a 21st century Cinderella,” in which the story follows a rich Brit named Maxim Trevelyan (aka the Mister) and the woman he falls for, Alessia Demachi. The official synopsis for the books sounds like Fifty Shades fans will be pleased, because it features 1) a sexy and wealthy man, 2) a woman he wants to take care of, and 3) sex, because duh.

"Life has been easy for Maxim Trevelyan. With his good looks, aristocratic connections, and money, he’s never had to work and he’s rarely slept alone. But all that changes when tragedy strikes and Maxim inherits his family’s noble title, wealth, and estates, and all the responsibility that entails...But his biggest challenge is fighting his desire for an unexpected, enigmatic young woman who’s recently arrived in England, possessing little more than a dangerous and troublesome past. Just who is Alessia Demachi? Can Maxim protect her from the malevolence that threatens her?"

Very little is known about the mysterious female protagonist Alessia, but in a passage revealed exclusively to The Today Show, the titular “Mister” sounds like he could be Christian Grey’s brother.

"[Maxim] has broad, defined shoulders, and on his biceps is an elaborate tattoo that is partially hidden by the bedding. His back is sun-kissed with a tan that fades as his hips narrow to dimples and to a pale, taut backside. His long, muscular legs disappear beneath a knot of gray duvet and silver silk bedspread, though his foot sticks out over the edge of the mattress. He stirs, the muscles in his back rippling, and his eyelids flicker open to reveal unfocused but brilliant green eyes."

If you like what you read—the book is out April 16th, 2019.
