The first pictures for “Feud” are here, and this is our new favorite show about powerhouse ladies

In a little over a month, Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated new anthology series, Feud: Bette and Joan premieres on FX and it seems like we’re learning more and more about the series every day. The series, which centers on the ~highly~ dramatic feud between Old Hollywood stars Bette Davis and Joan Crawford doesn’t air until March but we’re finally getting a look at Murphy’s take on the actresses. Starring Susan Sarandon as Davis and Jessica Lange as Crawford, we know this series is going to be just as intense as the real-life feud.

The series takes place in 1962 on the set of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? at during a time in which Davis and Crawford were aging out of their golden years in Hollywood. With these stills from the series, we can totally see the resemblances between Davis, Crawford, and the actresses portraying them.

While the series is set around this famous Hollywood feud, Murphy is also using it as a backdrop to talk about one of the biggest taboos in the entertainment industry — aging actresses. Murphy told Entertainment Weekly,

“I wasn’t interested in just doing this broad, campy [show]. I was interested in the idea of sexism, ageism, misogyny. Turning 40, 45, 50 and feeling like you’re at the height of your powers and people saying, ‘Well, you’re done.’

The stacked cast includes Alfred Molina as Baby Jane director Robert Aldrich, Stanley Tucci as studio head Jack L. Warner, and Sarah Paulson and Catherine Zeta-Jones as actresses Geraldine Page and Olivia de Havilland.

While we’re thrilled to be able to relive this dramatic time we’re also glad that terrible treatment of actresses as they age is addressed. While we’re certain that this was a major issue for actresses like Davis and Crawford, who were pitted against each other more and more as they aged, we know it’s still an issue in the entertainment industry today.
