This new female character from “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” looks amazing in her first image!
We were big fans of Guardians of the Galaxy, and not only because it featured swoon-worthy Chris Pratt. It was an overload of fun and adventure, duh! Naturally, we’ve been excited about the sequel ever since that first set picture, and now we have even MORE reason to feel giddy: Concept art by Andy Park has revealed a kickass new female character.
Joining Drax, baby Groot, Yondu, Star-Lord, Rocket, Nebula, and Gamora is a green-faced alien called Mantis — played by Canadian actress Pom Klementieff. This news was first revealed by Entertainment Weekly and reposted on Facebook by director James Gunn.

Mantis is a mysterious character whom we know little about, except that she’s an acquaintance of the Guardians. According to executive producer Jonathan Schwartz, “She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.” He’s not wrong there!
Sounds like the movie is going to deliver the goods, and we can’t wait to learn more about Mantis. Although Klementieff has acted before (most prominently in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy), this will be her big breakout role for sure. Exciting stuff for this actress!
Here she is in rehearsals with the team:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn’t being released until May next year (SOB), so there’s a teensy bit of a wait. But remember, we’re all in this together.
