From Michelle Williams to Mandy Moore, female BFFs were the hottest date at the Golden Globes
From the time we were little girls, we were all pretty much taught by media that a handsome suitor — preferably named Chris or Ryan — was the best accessory a girl could rock at an event like the Golden Globes.
But as years go by and women like Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds proudly show us that life can be happy without a heterosexual romantic partnership, more and more female celebrities are bucking the norm, ditching the dude, and proudly talking up their female friendships as the fulfilling, validating, life-saving relationships that they so often are.
And nowhere was this more clear than at the 74th Golden Globe Awards on January 8th, where everyone from Michelle Williams to Maisie Williams to, well, women not named “Williams” was showing off their female friends.
First up was Mandy Moore, who relied on BFF Minka Kelly to keep her modest.
The This is Us star and Friday Night Lights alum have been friends for over a decade, so of course Moore had Kelly by her side on her big night instead of her boyfriend, Taylor Goldsmith.
As always, “Game of Thrones” sisters Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner were side by side as well.
“Mophie,” much like Moore and Kelly, are a good reminder of why female dates can be especially practical on the carpet.
Busy Phillips is Michelle Williams’ permanent plus one, so it’s no surprise to see her looking fabulous at the Globes.
Michelle has been pretty not-shy about the fact that Phillips is one of the most important people in her life, and we love her for it.
“I’m so in love with her,” she said back in December. “She’s proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life, right there.”
Though Amanda Peet is married to “Game of Thrones” executive producer David Benioff, she chose Sarah Paulson as her date for the Globes.
While onstage, Viola Davis reminded us of how powerful it can be when women are each others’ champions.
