Felicity Jones is here to change the world as Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the trailer for “On The Basis of Sex”
In need of some Monday inspiration? Well, do we have the thing for you. After an agonizing wait for the highly anticipated movie, you can finally watch Felicity Jones in the On the Basis of Sex trailer. If the title doesn’t ring a bell on its own, here’s a quick refresher: The movie stars Oscar nominee Felicity Jones as a young lawyer by the name of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. No, really. I would not lie about something so incredible.
On the Basis of Sex is set in the 1970s, and chronicles Notorious RBG’s fight to bring a gender discrimination lawsuit before the U.S. Court of Appeals.
While that might not sound like the most swoon-worthy description, the movie looks like it’s going to be one for the record books, along with making us cheer and probably pull on our heartstrings, too. The trailer is full of ’70s fashion, including some iconic hair looks on Jones, and opens with this little gut punch of a fact (delivered via voiceover from a radiant Jones):
"There are 178 laws that differentiate on the basis of sex. Protests are important, but changing the culture means nothing if the law doesn’t change. If the law differentiates on the basis of sex, how will woman and men ever be equal?"
On the Basis of Sex hits theaters on Christmas Day 2018, which Rolling Stone helpfully points out marks the 25th anniversary of the real RGB’s appointment to the Supreme Court. If all of this weren’t enough to hype you up, know that the supporting cast is exceptional — in addition to Jones, Armie Hammer stars as Martin Ginsburg, Ruth’s husband, with Justin Theroux, Sam Waterston, and Kathy Bates also in prominent roles.

It’s thought that Ruth Bader Ginsburg herself will have a small role in the film — potentially cameo-sized, but that’s fine too — which could have been a secret, but the news leaked out around April 2018. Oh well. The more Notorious RGB the better.
