100% DOWN with Felicity Jones starring in the new ‘Star Wars’ movie
And. . .we may have our lead for the first Star Wars spinoff movie!
Now, for those of you who are scratching your heads, let us explain. This is a production totally separate from the main set of films (and the soon-to-be-released The Force Awakens). The powers that be in the collaborative effort between Disney and Lucasfilm have apparently tapped Oscar-nominated actress and all-around dynamo Felicity Jones for the coveted lead. According to reports, Jones beat out a list of several actresses for the part, including Rooney Mara and Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany.
This isn’t Jones’ first leap into a popular franchise — Jones played the role of Felicia Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 just last year.
The plotline of the film is being kept tightly under wraps, but rumor has it that she’ll be portraying the live-action version of Sabine Wren, a character from the animated series Star Wars Rebels currently airing on Disney XD. We’re hoping that this character will indeed be the leading lady as promised, because Wren is a graffiti artist and a weapons expert — at least on the TV show. Sounds like it’ll be the perfect role for butt-kicking regular, Jones.
This spinoff movie will be directed by Gareth Edwards (the man behind Godzilla), and cameos from a young Boba Fett and Han Solo (!) are also rumored. (Maybe we can get Chris Pratt to jump in if he’s already playing Indiana Jones? Just for continuity’s sake.)
The first in the series of Star Wars spinoffs is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2016, so start planning your Star Wars-themed premiere outfit now.
