How to deal when things don’t go as planned

What can we say? Life happens.

We’ve all been there: You’ve organized your day perfectly, but all of a sudden, something just hits you out of nowhere, and all your carefully laid plans are now totally ruined. It’s really hard to deal when you expected life to go a certain way, but how you handle things can make a big difference. You can’t control everything, but you can definitely relax, take a deep breath, and know that you’re going to crush whatever challenges are coming your way. Check out these tips for how to deal with some common situations in which things have gone wrong.

1. You have a really busy day ahead, but you got no sleep.

The worst, right? Your first impulse might be to grab a ton of coffee, but once it wears off, the caffeine crash can be brutal. A 2020 study determined that headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating might all be effects of caffeine withdrawal, so instead, try to look for more natural ways to deal. Take a quick power nap if you can, expose yourself to sunlight to wake up, and work on eating small, healthy meals at consistent intervals to maintain your energy levels.

2. You stain your outfit immediately after putting it on.

If you’re home, the easy thing to do is change. But if you already left the house, there are two tricks you can try—covering it up or attempting to remove the stain. If you choose the former, cover your stain with an accessory or a piece of clothing you may have withing reach. (Just call it a new, high fashion look… no one will know the difference!). If you want to get rid of the stain, a mixture of vinegar, warm water, and baking soda will do the trick.

3. You woke up with a cough and sore throat on the day of a huge presentation.

Talk about a bummer, especially if you’ve worked all night to ensure you impress your boss. Thankfully, having some Robitussin Maximum Strength Severe Cough + Sore Throat will help relieve symptoms with a non-drowsy formula, so you’ll be wide awake and alert to crush it in front of your coworkers.

4. You ended work too late to exercise.

Don’t stress! There are tons of workouts you can do at home, and they don’t have to be super long, either. A 2020 study based on a Tabata workout found that subjects burned between 240 and 360 calories per 20-minute workout that involved only body weights — so clearly, doing a quickie can be just as effective as a longer workout sesh.
