Meet Carly Lane, our contributor of the week!

Carly Lane is an avid reader, gamer and writer whose pieces lean toward obscure pop culture references…

and miscellaneous geekery and her own life on occasion. Her idea of a perfect day includes a trip to a cat cafe and a night at bar trivia. She has an on-again, off-again relationship with Tumblr at @favoritings, and you can follow her on Twitter at @equivocarly.

Hometown: Annapolis, Maryland
Where I live now: New York, New York
Fave book of ALL time: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Nothing compares to the first.
Person who inspires me the most: The two amazing women in my immediate family – my mom and my younger sister.
What made me want to become a writer: I’ve loved reading since before I could remember, and it was during my pursuit to devour as many great books as I could when I realized I wanted to tell my own stories. I started journaling on paper, and then eventually made the switch to keeping a journal online. When I got to college, specializing in creative writing was a no-brainer.
Music I listen to when I write: Music from TV show soundtracks, Spotify playlists designed for deep focus and creativity boosts, and occasionally acoustic cover songs.
Fave place to work: My room in my apartment or a local coffee shop that has good wifi (if I can snag a seat).
Writers I look up to: SO MANY. J.K. Rowling, Roxane Gay, Stephen King, Mallory Ortberg, Rick Riordan, Marisha Pessl, Diana Gabaldon, Chelsea Cain.

This is the best meme:

My favorite story I wrote for HelloGiggles is…
“If you’ve been looking for a new feminist TV hero, allow us to present Stella Gibson”. Because I adore Gillian Anderson, I can’t get enough of The Fall and I will happily point anyone to this show to watch it.
The title of my memoir would be…
Greater Than the Sum of My Parts (Or Maybe Just Taller) – which is sort of cheating because it’s the title of one of the first pieces I wrote for HelloGiggles two years ago!
