What your favorite Spice Girl says about you
It’s been 15 years since we listened, loved, and cherished The Spice Girls’ final studio album, Forever. But no matter how many years go by, there will always be a special place in our heart for this UK pop group. Why exactly did we love The Spice Girls the way we did? Because they were special. They were individuals, and they inspired us to embrace our own individuality.
In August of 1993, Geri Halliwell (aka Ginger Spice) came up with the name “Spice” during an aerobics class (of all places). When she brought this up to the rest of the group, they absolutely loved it. “Because we’re all really different,” said Emma Bunton/Baby Spice, when asked about why the name works. (It also helped that they’d already recorded a song called “Sugar and Spice.”)
Since that time, the Spice Girls worked hard to assert their individuality. On March 3, 1994, manager Chris Herbert wanted them to all dress the same and they were NOT having it. In response, they took the songs they’d been working on at the studio and left without so much as a Byeeeeee.
As you can see, the Spice Girls were built on differences, which is why each band member has something unique to offer the world. Even if the Spice Girls were before your time, there’s no way you haven’t heard of them. There’s no way you haven’t asked yourself, “Which of the five Spice Girls truly speaks to me?”
BUT if you haven’t yet asked yourself this significant question, we are here to help! Want to know what your favorite/potential favorite Spice Girl says about you? Well, let’s take a look…
Scary Spice (aka Melanie Brown)
If you feel a deeply profound connection to Scary Spice, that’s amazing! Because it means that you’re not afraid to be yourself ALL THE WAY. (It also means that you’d unapologetically embrace the nickname Scary Spice, since you have the self-confidence to back it up.)
Your friends may tell you that you’re the “loud” one of the group, but that doesn’t phase you. You have a voice for a reason, after all! And you’re going to use that unique voice to be exactly who you want to be. If you wake up one morning and want to wear black lipstick, you’re going to do it and you’re not going to care what anyone else thinks.
Sporty Spice (aka Melanie Chisholm)
If your fave Spice Girl is Sporty, then you are PURE ENERGY and probably always need to be on the move —whether you’re working out or doing five things at the same time like a multitasking queen.
Rather than spending the evening at the mall, you want to go on a hike and explore your surroundings. When your parents ask, “What do you want for your birthday?”, you request something like a trip to a nearby city or tickets to an event. Then, when they follow this up with, “Well, how about some new clothes instead?”, you will blink in confusion.
Baby Spice (aka Emma Bunton)
People constantly refer to you as “cute” and you have the lifestyle to prove it. From your wardrobe to your home decor, everything is brightly colored and full of life. You 110% believe in the power of glitter and you 120% believe in the power of Baby Spice. You’re also an optimist.
When all is said and done, you can’t resist adorable things. Why? Because they make you really happy. But, at the same time, you don’t want anyone to be mistaken: “cute” and “weak” are not synonyms. You are a strong human being who just so happens to love anything blush-colored. You are capable of climbing a mountain, but the only difference is that you’ll do it in light pink hiking boots.
Ginger Spice (aka Geri Halliwell)
You aren’t afraid to be a leader because you believe in your ideas. You read a new book every week, constantly find yourself learning new things, and are always up for an education in anything. Basically, you love to learn about the world, even if you’re not learning about the most happy-go-lucky information.
If you could describe yourself in one word, you’d probably pick this one: lively. You embrace every aspect of life and approach everything with enthusiasm. You may not bounce out of bed every morning (mostly because your thoughts kept you awake the night before), but you try your best to live an outgoing life.
Posh Spice (aka Victoria Beckham)
You sympathize with Posh Spice because you’re both misunderstood. You’re a very private person, so people often make (incorrect) assumptions about you. Yet, you’re okay with it because you still love yourself and do not need anyone else’s approval.
When it comes to how you present yourself, you always like to appear prim and polished. You have a taste for the finer things in life because you believe in quality over quantity. With that being said, first impressions are VERY important to you. It takes you awhile to open up to people, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t want to be well-liked. You’re always kind and courteous, but you’re definitely not an open book.
Self-expression comes naturally to you, but in a different sense. You like to express yourself through the choices you make: what you wear, what you create, the heels you choose to put on in the morning. Details matter to you because these details allow you to show the world just how wonderful you truly are.
While you and your loved ones may favor different Spice Girls, there is one thing you can probably all agree on: there’s nothing better than singing “2 Become 1” into a hairbrush.
