A crafty Father’s Day trophy for your #1 Dad
If your dad is anything like mine, then he’s probably overdue for some recognition. Maybe he taught you important life skills, like how to ride a bike or how to balance your checkbook (even if you don’t do either activity as regularly as you should). Maybe he offered you words of wisdom. Or maybe he just made you laugh when you really needed some sunshine.
This Father’s Day, celebrate your awesome dad with a cute, easy-to-craft mini trophy. I used a wooden mug for mine (my father is never without his morning cup of coffee) but any small object would work just as well. This DIY can also be easily adapted for other occasions, too—why not make a trophy for a hard-working teacher, or a best friend? Trophies for everyone!
Materials:
- 4-inch wooden square
- 2 1/2-inch high wooden mug
- Metallic gold paint
- Craft glue
- Foam paintbrush
- Black permanent marker
- Container for the paint
- Scratch paper
Craft away:
- Cover your workstation with the scratch paper.
- Pour a small amount of the gold paint into the container. Use the foam brush to apply a thin, even layer of paint to the wooden square and the mug. Paint the inside of the mug too; you can leave the bottom of the square and mug unpainted. Let the paint dry completely. If needed, add more coats of paint to the wood until it is totally covered.
- After the paint has dried, write “#1 DAD” on the mug with the Sharpie.
- Apply an even layer of glue to the base of the mug. Press the mug firmly to the center of the square, and let the glue dry.
- Gift the trophy to your top-notch dad!
